If your going to get a Playstation 3,
and this is your first time to get one,
and ya got the dough to shell out for one.....

Go for a Brand New unit, preferably a 320gb or 250gb model.
You can find the cheapest units for sale in your Davao area
@ SM DataBlitz located on the 3rd floor, right next to
a couple cell phone (accessories) shops.
For more info inquire with Arvin aka Leeboy
who has his own thread here, and works there,
so he is whom you can turn to for merchandise specifics
from that merchant.

Otherwise,
a 2nd hand/Used Phat but preferably Slim
would do just fine. Phat, only if you want
the Ps2 complete backwards compatibility.
The Slim can play Ps1 discs.

Your on the right track in getting a Playstation 3 this year,
soooo many freakn A great games coming out in 2k11.

Oh....your planning to go that route eh? lol.

Yes, as of early this year,
the Playstation 3 has been hacked and jailbreaked.
So you can indeed play "backup" Ps3 games on your
internal HDD or external HDD, if need be.

Also, PSN games on the Playstation Network are disc-less
downloaded games, that you can purchase from the Playstation Store.
They play right off the HDD.

For more information in regards to jailbreaking your Playstation 3,
turn to "Yuudai" aka Raphy, who is a member of this forum,
and does at times post here, and has a Jailbreaked unit.

Be wary of JB'ing your Ps3 though,
there is a possibility of it bricking on you, not to mention
the liabilities you might have in terms of being banned
or suspended from PSN in the near future.
And some games require a mandatory firmware update,
although I think you may be able to bypass them.

EDIT: Oh and BTW, you can purchase downloaded
backup games from xxx_cy of Davao/TipidSale,
who's office is located right across from San Pedro Hospital,
near Gmall. He offers them right on the HDD too.

so you mean sir d lahat ng games pwede ma install sa HDD o ma laro because of the updates? i prefer offline lang sir i dont do live or psn kung may ps3 na ako..

although I am not entirely sure.

Also, some Ps3 games have such a HUGE amount of GB,
that some are not logical to download onto an HDD,
because of the size, although if you have a HUGE HDD as well.
Then it won't be a significant problem.

You see Bluray discs hold a fairly significant
amount of GB, more than regular DVDs,
so some Ps3 games will have an enormous amount of GBs
to download and run.

Good on ya to be an offline gamer,
I at times play offline, and my arcade is an offline
gamers paradise. Most gamers, have started
off as offline gamers....

ahhh ok. regarding sa Jailbreak ps3 units, pwede nimo i-backup lang ang games sa HDD sa PS3 nimo. then play the games from there. since offline lang ka, wala nay problema ang PSN sa imo.

ang problema lang sa backed up games sa HDD kay hindi lahat ng games pwede ma play without a disc sa drive. dapat may game ka (any game will do) na nasa loob ng ps3. kay gamiton man ni sa mga backup managers sa ps3 para ma load ang backed up games.

as far as updates sa game goes, walay problema (for now). kay naka try ko sa NBA 2k11. jailbreak na akong unit, then naka connect lang ko sa internet pero offline sa PSN, makita gihapon niya na naay update available, so i-update lang ang game kay no need naman pod mag login sa PSN... so updated gihapon imong games

and oh. kung mupalit na ka ug PS3 and i-jailbreak nimo, i suggest na mu palit ka ug bisag isa lang ka game para sa mga kinahanglan ug "disc-sa-ps3" games.

pde man bisag dili na working ang bluray drive. pero hindi lahat ng games kay mag work... for now. wala ko kabalo ngano, pero hopefully sa future, maka work around na ang mga users ani.

so para walay problema2x, keep a single game for emergencies.
