It's much better than Tekken 6, but I'm not so sure how it stacks up against SSF4, or against MVC2!
First, I think the control system is a little silly. MVC2's controls were great, and I really don't see why they changed it.
Second, some of the characters are really really lame. She-Hulk? Modok? Who the hell is the Taskmaster? Come on, Marvel!
Third, wtf happened to air combos? Nothing new for TVC players here, but dammit they feel wrong to anyone who's played those old Marvel games.
But really, I like the game. It's fun, and I think it has depth that's equaled only by MVC2. 40 characters, 3 per team, and 3 different assists! That should equal thousands of possible combinations! And an anti-infinite combo system? YES.
I'm definitely playing Zero (shoryuken) + Doom (rocks) until I find a better pair of characters. I don't have a third character yet, but I'm beginning to think I want to play Amaterasu because the corner paper loop is funny as hell.
Dante is damn good. It's impossible for him to suck with all those crazy moves. He has everything, from traps, to divekick move, to silly combos, to a "beam super". I hate Dante, though, so I won't be playing him no matter how powerful he is. Trish, too.
The anti infinite system is really well done. It prevents infinites while letting some moves have crazy frame advantage ONCE.
For example: Zero can a,b,c,f+c, crouching a,b,c, f+c, but he will not be able to repeat the combo. He can launch into an air combo -> rain super after the second f+c, though, which would still make it a long combo.
Speaking of Zero, here's the longest combo I've found for him:
opponent in corner
Jump in, C, land, a,b,c,f+c, call doom rocks assist, jump forward, b,b,c, land, jump forward, b,b,c, land, jump forward, b,b,c, land, jump forward, b,b,c, land, b,c,s, superjump b,b,c,s, land, super
