PS3 in-game freezes.

Let's compare expenses for both methods;

Ps3 repair with new/2nd hand Bluray Lens:
YLOD Ps3 = $50 min
Ps3 Bluray exchange and replacement repair = $75 max
Total = $125

Brand New Ps3 Slim:
$275 to $400 depending on model

You save a minimum of more than half if you choose to
go the replacment Bluray Laser method.
But yes, there is a chance and risk that it might
do the same thing again. So might as well sell it right?

You are right, that buying a new Ps3 would be a risk free
transaction, but then again, defects happen to everything
even if it's Brand New, but rarely though.
And buying a new Ps3 is very costly. You might
want to sell your broken Ps3 first.

How long have you had it for? And what is the model?

ang weird pajud kay nahitabo pag human nako og 1st time nuke sa cod mw2 haha pagkahuman nuke na nuke pud akong ps3 = dead.

Pinaka worse jud ning gen for game consoles. Ako almost 3 years na unit nako pero gna limit na nko ang gaming time to 2 hours (Max) coz I'm anxious already. Well, in fact, the purpose of this console is to play more not ending up dead when you play more. This is a marketing strategy from Sony. May lifespan tong mga units nato and will make you buy another unit or send them to their service center and will cost you if the warranty is expired already and eventually it will still die. No one, even sony can fix a Damn Ylod unit, it's just temporary.

mao gyud..simple lng man au tung kinabuhi sauna oi..mski magbuntag imung ps2 or ps1..way problema..ang kuryente ra..haha..anyways..sgro at the cost of game content, graphics, etc..dako2x gyud ang kapalit..pero dle pud ni excuse para mag release sila ani nga console..unsa ta beta testers?hehe

If bluray issue, not really since most games can be played without a disc and I'm not sure also if the bluray will be functioning all the time if the disc is inserted while playing a game.

Well actually man,
when you send it in for repair to either SONY of America (the service center is located in Odessa, Texas),
or some other SONY repair center (I am not sure about other
service center in other parts of the world),
they do not actually "fix or repair" it,
unless its a problem with the software.
Hardware issues, such as HDD, motherboard, blu ray laser/drive,
and whatnot, are replaced BRAND NEW into these units,
making them "refurbished units".

They do not make you wait for you to get your damaged
unit back (if it's a hardware issue, if its a software issue
you'll get your original system back with save files intact),
they'll send you one of their refurbished units
that is the same make and model as the one you sent in.
You get a new serial number in effect, and a new 90 day
warranty from time of replacement was made.
(You can extend the warranty of your Ps3 unit
by purchasing the 1 year or 2 year plan on PSN,
A move I highly suggest to US Ps3 owners)

I know this,
because I have dealt directly with SONY of America before,
and a friend of mine, works for SCEA.
I have sent in 2 different units in for repair
over the past 2 years, and they always
come back working like new, (In fact the parts
inside the Ps3 unit is New, cause SONY has the parts
for em. lol). My 80gb Ps3 Phat unit went YLOD of me,
and after many times of reflowing it myself,
and having Cartek take a look at it,
I sent it in to Odessa to have it replaced,
without warranty, which costs $99 plus tax and shipping,
they'll handle the return shipping costs.
The other one, a 250gb PS3 Slim had internal HDD issues,
in connection with 3.50 firmware, and it got
replaced real fast too under warranty tho.

So yeah, SONY can indeed "fix" YLOD units,
not necessarily "fixing" em, but replacing them
with new internal parts. Which is a good thing.
Otherwise the fix would just be temporary.

So, it's kinda wise to send your busted
PS3 unit into them.
Which I recommend to anyone here,
only thing is SCEA doesn't accept non-USA
or non-Canadian customers......

That would be great if they provide extension of warranty here. The 90 day warranty after fixing a ylod unit would not really suffice. The ylod issue will still comeback within the 90 day warranty or after. Sony knows the lifespan of a ylod ps3 after being fixed.

Bisan 250gb slim PS3 or 320gb Slim ana gihapon ang daot,Bago lang ko naka ayo ug 320gb slim PS3 no display and no sound,after 10 seconds on mag shut down.
More heat ang PS3 compare sa PS2 ug PS1.Tungud sa nindot na graphic display sa PS3 compare sa PS1 and 2.

@cartek: same issue sad ba ng mag freeze ang game then mag shutdown/restart dayun ang ps3? pero certain games ra man specifically dual layer disc games. or bluray drive issue ni? naga fix ka ani nga issue?
