jave-lin wrote:Lol. Seems like am not the only one who had his Playstation 3
freeze during just minutes into gameplay (even during startup).
My Ps3 Slim 250gb which I just purchased from a wholesaler about
3 weeks ago (I assigned it to the guest room in my crib, I have 4 ps3's in my crib) just gave up and froze totally on me.
First it started off, freezing during God of War 3,
then it froze during NBA 2k11, then after a few days,
just booting it up, it froze during the waves thing on startup
not even making it to the main menu XMB screen.
I was enigmatic about this event and issue,
so I called up SONY Support Services (Toll Free #1-800-345-7669)
and had met up with a SONY customer rep named "Astrid",
she asked me for my serial number, and turns out that
the Ps3 Slim is still within Warranty (ending April 25th),
but before sending it in for repair servicing,
I had to go through a trouble shooting procedure.
I told her about the problem of my Ps3 freezing, trifecta
during gameplay/loading/start-up, and she told me it could
be a corrupted or malicious file within the Ps3's HDD.
So, we did the safe mode thing. I held the Ps3 power button for
a few secs until it beeped 3 times and turned on into a black
screen giving me options. She told me to "restore" the Hard drive.
So I did. Then it started up again, and the startup freezing was gone.
She and I thought, that the freezing issue was fixed, and that a hidden corrupted file within the HDD was the culprit. I was considering changing my HDD. But then, I said to her, hang on a sec, let me
put in a game to see if it's all good. So I put in NBA 2k11, and guess what, it hangs on me during the 3D info thing. Sh!t.
The issue is still there. So she told me, to go back into safe mode
again and this time to "reformat" the HDD, which would mean
the files and save data on the system would be erased,
but the firmware would still be there. It's a Ps3 Slim system
that's used by my guests staying at my crib, I don't use it much,
unless I decide to relax in the guest room. So no probs,
I'll reformat it. But upon pressing the power button,
and trying to enter safe mode. It doesn't hit the 3rd beep.
It only stops at two. Sh!t once again. And now, it doesn't even
show the start up XMB screen, it's all entire black,
no picture, no sound, nothing. Effn Sh!t.
So she decides it's time to proceed to send it in for servicing,
their servicing center is located in Odesa, Texas.
A prepaid shipping specially molded box meant for packing the ps3 slim
would be sent to my address, and I'd ship to them, all expenses
paid, because I am still under warranty. It would cost $99
to repair your Ps3 if you it was out of warranty.
Return shipping would be via FedEx for Free.
So good deal. I am still awaiting for the prepaid box to arrive,
so I can send it in for servicing. Would take a week to repair it,
and then get back to me.
Before hanging up on Astrid, I inquired with her, as to what the problem
would be in regards to my Ps3 Slim, and she told me
it could highly likely be the HDD or the Bluray Laser itself.
I inquired with another reputable Ps3 repair center;
http://www.psr1.com/
And the service tech told me, it was the Bluray Laser,
and it needs to be replaced.
So iono, sh!t, poa Ps3 Slim.
But anyway, I got 3 other Ps3's in my house,
so it's all good. lol.
If your inquiring as to how to repair your Ps3,

Inquire with them if your Ps3 sill has warranty.
Or give me your serial # and I could do that for you.
And, as a favor, I can send your Ps3 in for repairs,
if it is indeed still under warranty (you can extend your system's warranty by purchasing the 1 year or 2 year plan on PSN),
you can ship your Ps3 to me, and as SONY America
only does repairs for USA n Canada customers,
I can ship it out for ya for Free Shipping,
then when it comes back, I'll ship it back to you via DHL
or the Post Office. You don't have to pay me a cent
for doing such, I am glad to be of help somehow,
just give me the funds to pay for the return shipping back to you
in the Phils.
So yeah, that's my long arse story,
and info. Hope you weren't too bored. lol.
So Yeeeeeah.....
I think it's your HDD or Blueray Laser that is the issue,
most likely upon hearing your stories,
it must be the Blueray Laser, in that case,
Cartek aka Manuel cannot help you, and you need
to replace the Blueray Laser, either buy one from a YLOD
unit of the same make and model, and taking
that out of it, or sending it in to a qualified
reputable service center.
