Ps3 Phat 60gb system, overheating problems......

I've never done anything with the PS3 besides playing and software installation. It hasn't overheated on me, despite always being in particularly close proximity with another hot machine. It's always been set up vertically, though I'm not sure if it even helps. Honestly, I'm not a huge fanatic so I don't take extraordinary care of it. If this one ever breaks I probably won't care too much.

The 60gb unit just died about a few hours ago.....
After having it cleaned inside and out,
and the tech friend, applying thermal paste to the heatsinks
and GPU. After running really good for like 40 minutes, it just crashed,
and the screen went all black, oh, it still powers up though,
but it's unplayable, the Ps3 doesn't detect the Hard Disk
and the screen is all pixalted and black. Sh!t.

Am having it sent to the mainland to have it repaired at
a reputable service center for $119 plus my own shipping.
Damnit! LOL! I got all my RB series DLCs in that unit,
and all my major main saved data and trophies from my
previous profile.....effn A....

So, now, I gotta move one of my Ps3 Slims on over to my bedroom. lol.
Darnit-all. Now I have to DL all the RB DLCs and PSN games over again,
since I never did that with this unit or the others.
So, if ya see me online, I'll be in the PSN store, downloading
from the PSN DL list. lolz.

If it's as hard to find as you say it is, $119 + shipping should be an easy decision. It's like getting a secondhand 60GB for around $200. Not a bad deal.

Sony can but wont fix ylod permanently. why? Because, sony is only using reflow method or re-balling it with lead free based solder. The only permanent fix for ylod is to re-ball it with lead based solder since it does not melt/crack during high GPU/CPU temperature. Why sony does not use lead based solder? Because it is illegal. All ps3 phat/slim, xbox 360 phat/slim are lead free based. That's why the solder gets crack/melts easily resulting to ylod and rrod.

ako2 ra man toh, ahaha. uu, gbaliktad nq pad tpos gi.glue ang rubber sa pad. basta make sure lng nga stable ug pantay ang mga rubbers para dli malihok2 c ps3. hehe.

A 2nd Hand 60gb isn't that difficult to find....
But a Brand New one is. If your going to buy or purchase
an the original Ps3 Phat, purchase it Brand New,
although, I doubt there are any new Ps3 Phat units
that are still sitting on shelves anywhere in the world....

Yeah and that's exactly why $200 isn't a bad price to get Sony to fix your 60GB. I doubt anyone can do a better repair job than Sony, and there's really no point in buying a second hand unit because it'll cost about the same and will probably be nearing its natural death.
